Polystyrene is used in many applications disposables, automobiles, packaging toys construction, electronics, and housewares. It is available as a homopolymer (crystal) or a tough blend resin (HIPS) which has entranced physical and thermal properties. Extrusion injection molding and thermoforming are the primary processes in PS consumption. The largest single HIPS application is in food packaging and service These are dairy containers, cups, lids plates, bowls, and disposables (flatware, pens, and closures).
